The Module 4 on “Information Systems in Healthcare”, co-authored by Brig (Dr) S. Gita Ramesh, Lt Col (Mrs) Manonmani Venkat (Retd.), and Dr. Mrunal Prashant Chavan, introduces nurses to the design, components, and practical applications of digital systems that manage healthcare information. 

The module explains the structure and role of Health Information Systems (HIS), including Hospital Management Information Systems (HMIS), Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Telemedicine, and Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM). Nurses explore how these systems streamline hospital workflows, from patient registration and diagnostics to billing and discharge while improving communication, reducing errors, and ensuring continuity of care.

The module highlights real-world examples like Bahmni, eSushrut and eSanjeevani, demonstrating India’s progress toward integrated, ABDM-compliant systems.

By the end of this module, nurses will understand how information systems enhance efficiency, transparency, and coordination enabling them to deliver safer, faster, and more patient-centered digital healthcare.
