NGO Transformation

Driving scale and enhancing impact are challenges faced by most NGOs during their journey. This is especially compounded by limited resources and organizational strength.

Some of the challenges faced include the following:

  • Large number of volunteers, often with limited education and experience
  • High employee / volunteer turnover making training and continuity a challenge
  • Highly manual and non-standard processes e.g., data collection, data management
  • Inadequate management bandwidth to track and monitor performance with growth
  • Difficulty in monitoring operational and financial performance and controls
  • Inadequate data available to take data driven decisions
  • Lack of IT systems / technology to drive efficiencies and effectiveness

Koita Foundation works with growing NGOs to understand and address their scalability challenges. We help them simplify and enhance business processes and to digitally transform operations and analytics to drive performance and scale in an orderly manner.

How we work with NGOs

Business Process Optimization

  • Identify key business processes for the NGO at the front end, i.e. the point of interaction with the beneficiary
  • Determine which business processes need to be simplified / enhanced
  • Optimize business processes based on internal and external inputs Define key performance indicators

Digital Transformation

  • Assess how technology can be used to enhance processes and track performance
  • Determine technology options (including buy v/s build) and support partner/vendor selection
  • Fund technology deployment
  • Provide support during implementation and roll-out to ensure success
  • Establish well defined dashboards and business intelligence tools to monitor and track performance

Ongoing Monitoring and Support

  • Help NGOs establish ongoing review mechanisms
  • Improvise based on learnings and make incremental enhancements
  • Provide support for ongoing maintenance and upgrades

Through our work over the years, we have helped NGOs significantly improve their performance and meaningfully achieve their objectives through adoption of technology and a data driven approach. Some notable examples are:

  • Defining and building Microsoft BI-based reporting and business intelligence platform for tracking performance of over 17,000 volunteers, supporting over 350,000 children across India
  • Establishing a Sales force-based platform for student career planning – supported scale up from 3,000 students to 30,000 students
  • Creating a Decision Tree App which enables health workers to ask questions to beneficiaries based on standard protocol, record visit data and escalate to supervisors
  • Developing a comprehensive web application along with a mobile app to effectively manage the operations of night schools including attendance, performance and material distribution
