Akanksha Foundation (www.akanksha.org) is dedicated to delivering high-quality education to children from low-income communities, empowering them to realise their potential. To support the National Education Policy's vision and drive large-scale change in public education, Akanksha, leveraging its proven strengths, is taking its best practices beyond its own network through Project Setu. Partnering with the Nagpur and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporations, Akanksha is working with 222 municipal schools, impacting over 70,000 students and reaching more than 1,000 headmasters and educators under the project.
Project Setu, an initiative by the Akanksha Foundation, aims to transform public education in India by extending the organisation's successful educational practices to municipal schools. The program focuses on five key pillars: Leadership & Management, Educator Development, Infrastructure & Resources, Community Engagement, and School Culture & Student Well-being.
These areas encompass initiatives such as data-driven decision-making, teacher training in English and numeracy, resource gap analysis, strengthening parent and School Management Committee (SMC) roles, and promoting student safety and social-emotional learning.
Enhancing Educator Efficiency and Classroom Practice Through Real-Time Observations
Tracking the effectiveness of the interventions with the education system was challenging due to an unstructured monitoring system. Team members visited schools only once every two months, yielding inadequate data for measuring progress and planning future visits, which hindered long-term impact assessment.
Koita Foundation collaborated with Akanksha to develop a customized app for field officers, streamlining intervention monitoring and enabling team members to record interactions with teachers and headmasters for a comprehensive view of each school's progress throughout the academic year.
